Reception opening hours

Regular opening hours:

01 september – 15 december:

Monday to Thursday: 8AM – 8PM*
Friday and Saturday: 8AM – 9PM*
Sunday: 8AM – 4PM*

Remember that opening hours may be different during public holidays, holidays, etc. Contact the reception if you are unsure.

NOTE! On all weekdays, the reception is closed from 12 PM to 2 PM.

What are the rules of the house?

Danhostel Aarhus City is your home away from home. We do have some simple house rules that we ask our guests to respect. Please, read more about our house rules here.

How do I cancel or change my booking?

You always get the best prices when you book via Danhostel Aarhus’s own website.

We recommend that you choose a flexible reservation, which allows you to cancel your reservation free of charge, right up until 18.00 pm the day before your arrival. If cancelled later than this, the first night will be charged. Therefore, please remember to cancel well in advance.

If you choose a non-flexible reservation it cannot be refunded once it is made. The full amount is charged at the time of purchase and is non-refundable.

Please note that we have a separate cancellation policy for group-reservations. Please see you booking reservation or contact info@danhostelaarhuscity.dk for information.

If the booking is made through a third party (eg Expedia, Booking.com, etc.), please note that other cancellation policy may apply.

Always check if your booking can be cancelled free of charge before a certain date or if you book at a non-refundable price.

When can I check in/out?

Check in is from 15.00 pm; check out is at 11.00 am the latest. Please ask the staff if you would like a late check out. Charges apply.

How do I check in?

On the day of arrival, you can check in at our reception from 15.00 pm. Upon check-in you will receive your key card that gives you access to your room, as well as to our front door at street level, during the period you are staying with us.

Can I get an early check in?

We cannot guarantee check-in before 15:00 pm, but we will do our best to suit your needs. You can check in from 14.00 pm if your room is ready. Check-in before 14.00 pm costs 50 dkk. We can offer to store your luggage for 30 dkk if it is not possible for us to arrange an early check-in.

Can I check in late?

Yes. It is important that you coordinate with our reception if you arrive outside reception opening hours. Then we can place your key card for you in one of our key delivery boxes outside our front door. The key card gives you access to our hostel and you room, 24 hours a day. We will send you and e-mail with guidance and a code for the delivery box on the day of your arrival.

Can I get a late check out?

Please ask our reception staff if you would like a late check out. We cannot guarantee a late check out, but we will do our best to help you out. Our prices for a late check out are:

Late check out until 12.00 pm can be purchased for 200 dkk for a private room and 75 dkk for a bed in domitories.

If it is not possible for us to offer you a late check out, you can store your luggage with us for 30 dkk.

Can I make a reservation and pay upon arrival?

No, unfortunately that is not possible. Depending on your reservation your credit card will either be charged when you make your reservation or 48 hours before the arrival date. For more information please see our Terms and Conditions of Sale here. 

What credit / debit cards are accepted?

VISA, MasterCard, JCB, American Express and Dankort are accepted.

When do I pay for my booking?

You pay immediately via DIBS when you book online through our website. You will receive a booking confirmation with our conditions and payment instructions when you book by phone or by mail. 

Do you have price guarantee?

Yes, of course we do! When you book directly on our website, we guarantee that you will get the best online price.

Discount Agreements & Hostelling International

Your holiday becomes even more affordable when you have a Hostelling International (HI) Card and use our discount agreements.

We have compiled a list of businesses/attractions which work in cooperation with Danhostel to provide discounts to visitors with a valid Hostelling International (HI) card.

Discounts agreements are divided into regions and are listed alphabetically so you can find those closest to you.  The regions are North JutlandMid JutlandSouth JutlandFunen and IslandsZealand and IslandsCopenhagen, and Bornholm.

Take advantage of the many discounts when you present a valid HI card. The HI card is valid for one year, and can be purchased at all Danhostels, and hihostel.com.

Do you offer corporate agreements?

Yes. We offer at least 10% discount for companies holding a Danhostel Company Card. If contact us if you want to know about our corporate agreements or read more here. Please contact us at info@danhostelaarhuscity.dk.

How do I get to Danhostel Aarhus City?

Where can I park?

Parking at Danhostel Aarhus City is both easy, cheap and fast. We have your own parking spaces with direct access to our fantastic hostel. Upon arrival, contact the reception with the registration number of your car. Our parking is rented out according to the “first come, first serve” principle and cannot be reserved in advance. We also offer a discount on parking in the public parking facility of Magasin a two-minute walk from Danhostel Aarhus City.

Do you provide lockers?

Yes. You can use our secure luggage storage for a fee of 30 dkk.

In the room:
In our shared dormitories there are bed-rollers that can be locked with an padlock. Padlocks can be purchased at our reception for 45 dkk. You can also bring your own padlock.

Before check-in:
If you arrive early, you can store your luggage in our luggage storage room for 30 dkk. Please, contact us in advance if you are traveling as part of a larger group and you need storage space.

On departure:
Individual travellers and families can store luggage for 20 dkk per person. We have limited space so we cannot guarantee availability. Groups often rent a room an extra night, so that at the luggage can be stored all day.

Luggage storage is always at your own risk and Danhostel Aarhus City is not responsible for any loss of valuables.

How do I access the hostel?

All guests have 24-hour access to our hostel and their individual room. When you have booked an overnight stay with us, you will be given a key card upon check-in. This key card gives you full access to our front door at street level, as well as to your room. The key card expires automatically at 11.00 am on the day of check out.

Arrival outside reception opening hours: It is important that you notify our reception if you arrive outside reception opening hours. Then we can place a key card for you in one of our key delivery boxes outside the front door. We will send you and e-mail with guidance and code on the day of arrival so that you can open the key delivery box.

Our reception is open Sunday – Thursday from 07.30 am to 21.00 pm, and Friday – Saturday from 07.30 am to 23:00 pm.

Can I get breakfast?

Every morning from 7.30 – 10.00 am we offer a delicious breakfast buffet in the café. We hope you will give us a chance to show you how god a hostel-breakfast can be.

Do you provide bed linen and towel?

Bed linen and towel is not included in our prices. We offer the cheapest prices on accommodation in Aarhus, and as our guest you can save money if you bring your own bed linen and towel. Bed linen and towel is optional extras that can be purchased when you make your booking or on the day when you check in with us. You can always get a fresh towel for 20 dkk and fresh bed linen for 50 dkk per person.

Do our rooms have private bath & toilet?

Nej. Alle vores værelser er uden bad/toilet. På vores værelsesgange findes fælles toiletter og bade-faciliteter som deles med vores øvrige gæster. Vi holder en meget høj rengøringsstandard, og sikrer at alle fælles område fremstår rene og pæne.

Are there female dorms?

Yes. We have dorms that can be booked by everyone, and we have dorms that are reserved for women only. Simply select “Bed in Mixed Dormitory” or “Bed in Female Dormitory” when you make your reservation.

Will I be able to stay in the same room as my friends?

If you are booking beds in a dorm for more than one person, we can’t guarantee that you’ll be placed in the same room. If you want to be sure to stay in the same room, please book a private room.

Please note that our rooms are furnished in such a way that we can provide an extra bed. Room. It allows the big family, or the group of friends, to stay together in one room, and thus save money. We have quality mattresses that we use for extra beds.

The price for an extra bed is 200 dkk per night.

Is there an age restriction?

Guests under 18 years old are not allowed to sleep in our shared dorms. When booking a private room, you have to be accompanied by minimum one adult over 18 years old. People under the age of 18 can stay with us, but only in a private room and with a written permission letter from their parents or guardian – please contact us before you make your reservation.

Do you have handicap accessible rooms?

Of course; if you wish to book a handicap accessible room, please contact us.

Can I bring my pet?

Pets are not allowed inside our hostel, except for guide-dogs. If you plan on bringing your guide dog, please book a private room and notify our reception at info@danhostelaarhuscity.dk prior to arrival.

Do you have WiFi?

Free and super-fast WiFi internet is available throughout our hostel. With a location in the old telephone exchange, we have direct access to the largest cables in the city, and we have secured that our guests can surf unlimited on the Internet. We know how important it is to have a stable and fast Internet connection, and we give you the best conditions for contacting friends and family when you are on holiday or on a business trip in Aarhus.

Kitchen access

We have a small guest kitchen that is practical, functional, and fully equipped with various kitchen utensils and service.

Our guest kitchen and dining area are reserved for individual guests and families. You can prepare your own breakfast, lunch or dinner and have fun with the other guests at the hostel. Please, remember to clean up after yourself!

Unfortunately, groups of over 10 people cannot use our guest kitchen, unless this is agreed with our reception in advance. Please contact our reception at info@danhostelaarhuscity.dk.

It is not allowed to prepare food or eat in the rooms.

Can I bring my own food and beverages?

Yes. You can bring your own food and eat it in our designated places, as well as in our café and on our roof terraces. Food must not be eaten in the rooms, neither the private nor the common rooms. It is not allowed to bring your own alcohol, beer, wine, etc. You can buy drinks in our café. Please respect this!

Do you provide laundry facilities?

Yes, we have a self-service laundry room with both washing machines and dryers for 35 dkk.

Is smoking allowed at Danhostel Aarhus City?

No! Danhostel Aarhus City is a 100% non-smoking area and smoking is not allowed inside. All smoking must be done outside the hostel. There is a 1.000 dkk smoking fee if you smoke anywhere within the hostel, and a fee for 6.500 dkk if our highly smoke sensible detectors are activated. Please go outside on our rooftop terraces, or out into the street if you want to smoke.

Can I borrow a hairdryer?

Yes. You can always borrow a hairdryer at the reception.

Is there soap and shampoo available?

Yes. All bathrooms and toilets are equipped with soap dispensers. Shampoo can be purchased at a modest price at our reception.

What kind of sockets are available at Danhostel Aarhus City?

We have electrical outlets according to the European standard with 220 V. Please, bring your own adapter. All rooms and beds have access to electrical outlets.

Families with children

We offer a perfect setting for families with children. We love children and they love us. We have organized the hostel in such a way that there is room for both children and adults. We offer a children’s breakfast buffet and you can borrow cots, highchairs, changing table etc. for the little ones.

Smaller children

Children under the age of three can stay in private rooms without any extra charges. If you want a cot during your stay, this can be rented incl. sheet, pillow, and duvet for 200 dkk per stay. There is room for maximum one cot per room. Room. We have a limited number of cots which are rented out on a “first come, first served” basis.

Extra bed in your private room?

Our rooms are furnished in such a way that we can provide an extra bed per room. This allows the big family, or the group of friends, to stay together in one room, and thus save money. Children under the age of three can stay in private rooms without any extra charge. We have quality mattresses that we use for extra beds. The price for an extra bed is 200 dkk per night.

Aarhus by bicycle?

Aarhus is the perfect city for biking. Rent a city bike with us and explore the city. Head south past Tivoli Friheden, Mindeparken, Marselisborg Castle, and on to Dyrehaven. Or north to the Old Wooden Ships Harbor, Risskov, the Permanent Waterpark and on to Bellevue beach.

You can rent a bike with us for 99 dkk per day, 80 dkk for 6 hours or 60 dkk for 3 hours.

You can safely park your bike with us. We have a large cellar where you can park your bike for 50 dkk per night. Please contact our information at info@danhostelaarhuscity.dk for further information.

What is the local area like?

Danhostel Aarhus City is in the heart of Aarhus – a central place for experiences in Aarhus. A cosy area with pedestrian zones, cafes and city life at Vadestedet and the Latin Quarter.

How far is it to the city centre?

Danhostel Aarhus City is part of the city centre with only 0,2 km to Aarhus Cathedral and 0,7 km to Aarhus Central Station.

What attractions should I see in Aarhus?

It depends on who you are. Fortunately, there is something for everyone. From Danhostel Aarhus City you are within walking distance from many of the most popular attractions: ARoS Art Museum, The Old City, Aarhus Theater, Aarhus Musical House, Aarhus Street Food, DOKK1 and much more.

Other points of interest are MOMU Moesgaard Museum and Tivoli Friheden. The city offers endless possibilities for sightseeing. If you like guided tours, try a guided city-tour or rent one of our bikes and explore the city.
